\nLiangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture is located in the southwest of Sichuan Province. Numerous mountains scatter farmlands, inconvenience transportation and inhibit access to information and materials. “Transportation on Foot and Communication by Roar” can perfectly describe this condition. High altitude and low temperature make it only possible to plant cold-resistant and low-yielding crops such as buckwheat and potatoes, and harvest largely depends on weather. It’s very common for people to live, wholly or partly, with livestock. Local sanitary and medical conditions are so terrible that the death rate of pregnants and newborns is much higher than that of other places. Because of the hostile environment and the undeveloped economy, this area has the largest number of poor counties, the widest scale, and the highest degree of poverty in Sichuan.

\nSince building long-term relationship with Liangshan local NGOs in 2012, Huaqiao Foundation successively launched several projects, such as rural basic education, computer and English training, cultural preservation, charity clinic, road reparation, house relocation, water purification and mini tillers donation.
